2.	Functions/Services of the Department	Chief Engineer (Building Maintenance) dept. is mainly indulged to carry out major structure repair and electrical works of municipal owned properties of some of the departments viz. SWM, Market, Estate, Fire Brigade, Ward Offices, BMC Head Office, Municipal schools, Municipal Hospitals, Cemeteries etc. by inviting tender and appoint contractors as per BMC procedure to carry out the works. This department appoints panel of structural consultant towards municipal structural audit AND also to appoint propping and demolition contractor as required. It looks after Registration of construction commodities. Municipal Architect Dept. who is working under Chief Engineer (Building Maintenance) indulging work to prepare plan for new/reconstruction of Municipal Buildings.
