The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is launching the Eco-housing program to encourage environment sensitive residential development in the city. The Eco-housing assessment criteria lists down a number of measures to help quantify the environmental performance of completed projects. The criteria is applicable to new construction as well as for the retrofit projects (existing housing societies). A voluntary five star rating and certification mechanism developed around the Eco-housing assessment criteria encourages adoption of energy efficient and resource conservation measures.

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has established an effective monitoring and verification mechanism for the certification of Eco-housing projects. The Administrative and Technical wing of the Eco-housing and Resource Conservation Cell (EHRCC) will evaluate, verify and rate Eco-housing projects. Developers need to pay a fee for certification of their and can download the registration form to join the program

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) will offer incentives to both developers and end user to popularize the program. The Eco-housing Yellow Pages provides a listing of service and technology providers to help in implementation.
